VICENZA - half-day guided tour
(for accompanying people)
August 31st from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Registered accompanying persons are invited to join a guided walking tour of the city of Vicenza. This tour is offered on Thursday, August 31st.
The meeting point with the English speaking guide is at the Conference
Registration Desk at 2:00 p.m.. After an introduction of the Town, the
tour will start with a very pleasant walk among the Palladian sights:
Piazza dei Signori, Loggia del Capitaniato, Basilica Palladiana,
Palazzo Bonin Longare, the Salvi Garden with its Loggia Valmarana,
Palazzo Barbaran Porto, Palazzo Porto Festa, Palazzo Thiene, Tempio
della Santa Corona, and will end with the visit of Palazzo Chiericati.
The tour will last a little less than 3 hours.
PADOVA - full-day guided tour
(for accompanying people)
September 1st from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Program:
Registered accompanying persons can join the full day guided tour to Padova, which will take place on Friday, September 1st.
The meeting point is at the Conference Registration Desk at 8:45 a.m..
Participants are advised to reach the Congress Site by the morning
shuttle buses which pick up Conference Participants from VIEST Hotel.
The programme of the excursion is as follows:
9:00 a.m.
Departure from the Congress Site with private bus to Padova (about 60 min ride).
Meeting with the English speaking guide in Padova for a visit of the
historical centre to see the Basilica of S. Antonio, Palazzo della
Ragione, Caffè Pedrocchi, the ancient building of the
University, the famous ancient squares (Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza della
Frutta), the Scrovegni Chapel with the masterpiece of Giotto’s
painting.
1:00 p.m.
Lunch at a typical restaurant in Padova. After lunch, the visit will continue.
4:00 p.m.
Transfer back by private bus to the Congress Site.
5:00 p.m.
Arrival in Vicenza. From the Congress Site participants can reach the selected hotels by the evening shuttle buses.
GALA DINNER
AT LOGGIA SUPERIORE DELLA BASILICA PALLADIANA
(Upper Loggia)
All registered participants and registered accompanying people
are cordially invited to join the gala dinner at Basilica Palladiana
(Upper Loggia) on Thursday, August 31st, 7:00 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The program includes:
- aperitif - buffet of appetisers
- gala dinner served in the Upper Loggia.
It will be an excellent opportunity to meet other attendees and to
discuss mutual interests and activities in a beautiful fascinating
surrounding. Layered clothing is advisable.
Palladio
established his reputation with the Basilica, the two-storeyed loggias
with which the older Palazzo della Ragione (Town Hall) was surrounded.
The double order of white stone loggias offers elegance and solemnity.
To say it with J. W. Goethe: it is not possible to describe the
impression made by Palladio’s Basilica…
Buses
will pick up participants, between 6:10 and 6:40 p.m., at Hotel VIEST.
Buses will take participants to within a short walking distance of
Basilica Palladiana, which is situated in the central pedestrian area
of Vicenza.
Buses will return participants to the Hotel VIEST after the dinner.
